In the Shadows is a concert programme that highlights the historical underrepresentation of women in classical music. It features rarely performed pieces by composers such as Pauline Viardot, Clara Wieck Schumann, Lili Boulanger, Nadia Boulanger, Ethel Smyth, Claire Delbos and Alma Mahler, shedding light on the significant contributions these composers made to music history, contributions which have long been overlooked.

Performed by Scottish mezzo-soprano Beth Taylor and Lithuanian pianist Monika Palsauskaite reunited following their many collaborations as students of the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, the concert is grounded in a commitment to artistic excellence, diversity, and inclusion. By reviving the music of forgotten or lesser-known composers, In the Shadows invites audiences to engage with a richer and more representative musical heritage.
